Grounded in style (Before)

We all have a need to have a special place or space to call our own. It doesn’t have to be lavish, it just needs to speak to us. A room that hugs us and reminds us to breath deeply. I was fortunate enough to have a client who reached out with those very needs. A room that was not necessarily isolated but a room that she would gravitate to. The client also stated, that when she does share the space, it’s usually to watch some of her favorite programs with her husband, so it needed to be comfortable for both.

Here is the before and the space is a great size. However, I understood the home owners needs. Warming up this space a bit would be welcome, while keeping the connection to the dining room and kitchen that is partially open and adjacent to the space. The fireplace needs a bit of work but we want to remain in budget, so entire redo is out of the question. However we can make this a beautiful focal point with just a few improvements. First, I need to get rid of the raised hearth which has become a space eater and tripping point with a new gas insert fireplace.

So as you can see we removed the hearth. Once removed, it left a gaping jog in the surround. The jog was mended and the molding repaired. Here you can see the new fireplace insert has been installed.

Color is going to warm this fireplace up and Ben Moore’s Greenwich Village Green is going to frame a golden fire beautifully.

Waterworks handmade porcelain tile from California. Directly across from this beautiful surround and flush to the floor hearth, the sapphire sofa will live.

Chairs, ottoman and grasscloth wall covering will give this space it’s warm hand. The existing drapery will work with all of these choices perfectly.

Tile installation happening soon! Please feel free to follow along on the journey!!
